When I was a little girl, I didn’t give much thought to motherhood. I played with the occasional baby doll I’m sure, but I don’t ever remember playing “mommy” to my dolls. Then I discovered Barbie dolls and I was all about the career girl with the clothes and the thought that a girl can grow up to be “anything she wants to be.”So I did. I grew up. And I tried to be all the things I thought people wanted me to be: smart, successful, independent. Then I got married, had a solid career path ahead of me and thought, “well, I can have it all so I’ll add kids to the mix.” I never could have known in a million years the impact that one little thought would have on my life.
I have since had three children – all boys in case you’re late to the show. And my three boys have taught me so much about life, who I am and who I am capable of being. I discovered that I am truly able to be anything I want to be. And what I want to be is the best mother I can be.
Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms out there. I hope you have a great day.
